What is a lifestyle resort?

A lifestyle resort is an adults-only, typically clothing-optional property built around open-minded couples and, at some venues, single guests. Think of it as a normal boutique resort — pool, spa, restaurants, nightly entertainment — layered with a social scene where flirting, dancing, and discreet play are all welcome but never assumed. Guests set their own dial: from purely sunbathing to deeply social, and everything between.

Before you book

• Read the couples vs. singles policy. Most lifestyle resorts are couples-only; a handful cap single-male ratios by night.
• Check the theme calendar. Cocktail, all-white, and lingerie nights are common — packing to theme is half the fun.
• Match the vibe. Some resorts are party-forward, others are romantic and quiet. Reviews from other lifestyle guests are more useful than mainstream travel sites.

The five rules everyone follows

1. Consent is the whole game. Ask before touching, joining, sitting down, or photographing. "No" ends the conversation with zero friction.
2. Discretion travels home with you. No last names, no workplaces volunteered, and absolutely no photos of other guests without explicit permission. Phones stay away from pools and playrooms.
3. Couples move as a unit. Approach couples together, and take cues from the quieter partner. If one partner isn't feeling it, the answer is no.
4. Hygiene is a love language. Rinse before hot tubs, shower before social areas, and keep a small towel with you at the pool.
5. Tip well and greet staff by name. The people running your resort are the reason it feels safe. Regulars know them; you should too.

Dress code by time of day

• Morning to late afternoon: swimwear or clothing-optional at the pool, resort casual everywhere else. Cover up in restaurants.
• Cocktail hour: smart casual — think linen, a slip dress, a collared shirt. Even topless-friendly resorts dress up for sunset.
• Night: follow the theme. If there isn't one, err elegant. Playrooms almost always require you to be dressed or wrapped in a towel until you enter.

Reading the room

A drink offered across the bar is a friendly hello, not a proposition. A couple holding hands in a hallway wants to be left alone. A closed cabana curtain is a closed door. When in doubt, smile, keep moving, and let the other party invite you in.

What to pack

• Two swimsuits (one always drying), plus a sarong or robe for walking around.
• One outfit per themed night on the calendar.
• Reef-safe sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and cash for tips.
• Your own protection — most resorts stock it, but bring your preferred brand.
